The Student Outreach Program was initiated by PMCA in 2007 to develop an ongoing program that will help foster participation of talented young leaders in the affairs of the association and the confectionery industry. The program is designed to engage youth in industry activities through participation in the annual production conference, where they have the opportunity to interact with industry professionals. Through the support of PMCA members and other related associations, the Student Outreach Committee is focused on growing student activities and participation in the production conference and throughout the year.
Is the Student Outreach Program a Fit for You?
Are you creative? Do you like to experiment? Do you love candy, snacks and bringing people joy? If the answer is yes, confectionery science might be for you!
Students accepted into the program receive complimentary registration to the entire PMCA Production Conference. This includes:
- Technical sessions on a variety of confectionery topics — it’s different every year!
- Supplier exhibit, where you can get acquainted with companies in the industry and meet lots of new people
- Hosted meals including lunch on Monday and Tuesday, as well as the Annual Dinner Tuesday evening
- Various student-only events: welcome event, breakout sessions, facility tours (when applicable) and a farewell gathering
Each student is assigned a mentor to guide them through the conference, so don’t worry — you’ll be in good hands!
2017: Celebrating 10 Years of Success
In 2017, the SOP celebrated 10 years of success by honoring those who helped build and participate in the program as well as the companies and universities that hosted tours, students and much more. Check out some highlights from that milestone year.
